My name is Jen Steel, and I can't get enough of plants.  I can usually be found inspecting leaves or bark, nibbling the nearest edible plant and crafting  herbal wellness for my friends and family here in the Pacific Northwest.  I am currently in my third year of herbal studies with a heavy leaning in TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine, theory and practice.  I have studied in-person or engaged in correspondence courses or internships with several prominent herbalists and did an internship at the United Plant Savers sanctuary in Rutland Ohio under the auspices of Paul Strauss in the late 90's.  My mother is credited with my initial inspiration, and had a operated a small cut and dried flower and herb business when I was young to which I had the (mostly joy) of being enslaved to.  I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Agriculture in 2002 with an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture and a B.S. in Plant Health Management while completing an Honor’s science project in the endomycorrhizal colonization of Taxus roots grown in compost.

The wonders of God’s creation, the complexity, goodness and intelligence of such design is most apparent to me each time I look at a flower, or inspect the tiniest fungus.  

I am fortunate to call the tiny hamlet of Greenwater, which is nestled on the North side of Mt. Rainier, home with my husband and three daughters.
